The biggest obstacle to buying a pair of shoes is figuring out where to buy them.
The solution, it turns out, is to take a walk.
For years, shoes were hard to find in the stores, and as the recession began, they were particularly difficult to find on Amazon, which was the only place to buy sneakers.
That changed in October 2009, when Amazon began to sell sneakers on its website, but that wasn’t enough for many shoppers.
So, in February 2010, Amazon introduced the first-ever “off-the-rack” shoe online, and soon, people began to walk around the store looking for shoes.
That led to the emergence of “off the rack” retailers like Forever 21 and Lowes.
Lowes’ store, the New York Times reported, now has more than 1,500 pairs of shoes on its shelves, more than all the stores in the country combined.
Lowe also opened a new store in the Bronx, where a small number of Lowes stores are located.
But the trend has spread quickly, with more and more retailers opening off-the rack stores.

The New York Post/Getty ImagesIt took Lowes nearly two years to get this far, but the New Jersey company’s opening on January 11, 2010 has made it the first off the rack shoe retailer to have over 1,000 pairs of footwear in stock.
The company says its goal is to sell 3 million pairs of off- the-rack shoes by March.
But for the many people who have been waiting for a shoe, Lowes is just one of several brands that has recently opened off-store stores.
Nike has opened two locations, both in New Jersey, and is adding more stores in New Orleans and Austin, Texas.
Other retailers that have opened off the racks include Nike, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, and J.
So what are the benefits of these stores?
Lowes’ “off and on” stores make it easier to buy shoes on a day-to-day basis, according to Jody S. Foshee, a retail analyst at Fidelity Investments.
“It gives you a different perspective of what your shoe buying experience is like.
It’s also a better way to be more creative and be able to try out a lot of different shoes,” Foshe told Business Insider.”
The retail industry is going through a huge transition, where brands are going to start opening off the shelf, and retailers are going into the stores and having to get creative,” she said.
Foshee believes that Off-The-Rack Stores are a “game changer” for retailers.
“This has a tremendous effect on retail,” she told Business Insiders.
“We have a lot more space for people to go in and try on shoes, to get some feedback from their customers, to see what works and what doesn’t, and to see if they’re a fit for them.
It can be quite a lot, but it’s a lot less stress than having to shop in stores.”
Lowes has two other locations in New England, one in Cambridge and one in Boston.
It is the first of the two to open a third location in the Boston area, in South Boston.
Sears, which is headquartered in Chicago, is the only retail brand to open off- and on stores in more than 20 states.
“Sears has been very successful in its off-sale strategy,” says Jennifer E. Smith, a research associate with the Center for Retail Research at the Boston Consulting Group.
“They have been very focused on getting their shoes in stores and on their website in terms of offering shoppers the chance to purchase their products.”
Smith says Sears is also seeing an increase in interest in off-and-on retailers.
The number of off store sales at Sears stores has increased by more than 25 percent in the past year.
But that hasn’t been the case at Walmart.
“As far as off- store sales go, Walmart has been pretty consistent,” Smith said.
“And I think that’s why we’ve seen so much more interest from other retailers in Off-Store Stores.”
Sears is the latest retailer to open an off-site store, as companies like Nike, Under Armour, and Gap have been opening off site.
But, according of Fosue, most of the retail companies that have begun off the shelves have done so in the last six months.
Fosshee says the growth of off the store stores has helped the industry as a whole.
“Off the rack is a great way to get access to a large number of customers and to be able sell directly to them, and that’s really important,” she explained.
